Did lure craft change their Green Pumpkin colorant?

Recommended Posts

I have always used a mixture of green pumpkin and watermelon brown for my green pumpkin color so I haven't noticed the difference.

Seems weird this is just coming out as Kim and Shawn have owned Lurecraft for some time now and I would have to think that green pumpkin would be a color that would not sit on the shelf for very long.

Maybe it is just a mixing mix-up from LC.

I just opened up a bottle of GP I received a few months back. It is totally different. (It does have a warning about a new formula)I used the same amount of drops. It is more translucent and it looks like it might be made with watermelon. Their GP was my favorite Lurecraft color and the one I got the most compliments with. I suck at matching colors and don't really like to bother with putting so many drops of this and so many drops of that. I don't want to have to take new pictures, either. I just HATE CHANGE!:lolhuh:

Take a look at the side of the bottle. Mine say New Formula. I just came back from pouring some myself. Yesterday, I poured the same amount of drops (16) in a cup, no salt. I didn't really care for the change. I just poured 1 cup with 18 drops and 1 cup with 20 drops. Although there was not much difference between the 18 and 20, there was quite a bit between 16 and 18. It is not as green as the old formula but more olive or brown. The color is not bad, just different.

Hey guys, I'm "chiming in". Yes, we did change the green pumpkin. It takes several colors to make green pumpkin and a little pigment goes a long way. Some of these pigments have been around since the beginning of LureCraft (over 40 years ago). We are starting to run out of some of them and when we go to re-order, the color we need is no longer made so we have to choose something else. One of our suppliers has come in to work with Shawn to make them as close as possible but it is very difficult. Remember, we use these colorants for our Poor Boy's product too and want to keep them as close as possible. If he has had to tweak anything, I am sure he will share that information with any of you. I do know we do not use straight green pumpkin and never have for our baits.

I do not have time to get on here as much as I would like and I am starting to work on the 2009 catalog (I will be adding a whole line of fly tying products) so my time here will be even more limited. If you guys have any issues, good or bad, PLEASE call us. We want you guys to be happy!!!

Thanks!!!

Kim

One thing that I have to mention is that a trip to Lurecraft is well worth the drive. Kim and Shawn are very friendly, helpful folks. Be forewarned, however, that you will be like a kid in a candy store! All the pouring supplies (including molds) and lure building material are out in the open, neatly organized on racks. If you behave:wink:, you may be given a tour of where they pour their baits and make their molds. You will spend alot of time browsing.

I also found that they are rapidly expanding their inventory, so if there is something that you need that is not in their catalog, give them a call.
