tschneid83
Say i have a bunch of old baits that i want to melt down. What is the easiest way to do that. I have tried using a ceramic bowl in the microwave but that makes a lot of smoke and smells horrible. I could deal with the smell it is the smoke that sucks. Is there something cheap that i can buy to make my baits out of. thanks guys. This website has helped me alot.
Mercury
Honestly the microwave is the easiest. I would recomend using a PYREX measuring cup. Also lower the setting you are using on the microwave, or heating it for a smaller duration. DONT FORGET TO STIR>>>>> The plastic will not melt evenly, so this will help to keep it from scorching too.
redg8r
pyrex measuring cup (3-5$) & a microwave. The smoke your getting may be from overcooking or impurities in the old baits like scent, oils or something else. Make sure your not cooking 3x baits or any of the bio-degradable plastics. try & nuke it in 30 second intervals & then stir it between each cycle. itll take some practice & trial & error. especially since your recycling old baits. but it works.....recycling is good
Delw
If your using your wifes microwave to remelt factory plastics , she is going to kick your BUTT ( I know cause mine did when I used it to melt some berkly stuff) If you have an old microwave or an extra one do it outside not in the house. remelting factory plastics is the worse job there is. it smokes and it stinks, remember this isnt the plastic we use for hand pouring this is injection plastic and on top of that its filled with scents and cheap coloring and other things. Mercury
But Del doesnt it beat your alternative of trying to melt it in a pan? Oh my I did a number in the house when I cooked a batch in the house and added craw scent!! (done int he pan) Not only the worst smoke alarm attack but I got a good chewin' on too! Delw
HAHA, I had a batch(very old) of some of my worms I made a long time ago in the pink color I like still in a big chunk, had no choice but to use it cause my kids decided to play Newyears eve Party with about 3llbs of glitter a few days ago. well I forgot I add'd a 1/3 of a bottle of kickin bass garlic to them and popped them in the microwave(while my wife was christmas cookie cooking in the kitchen) I popped in 4 mins and hit the PC..... We'll I smelled the smell about the same time I heard her voice piercing through the walls. Oh man was she pissed. in one afternoon the kids glittered the house(it was real pretty reg and green fleck with sivler and gold) and I made it stink.
