stumpyfd
can someone explain to me the proper steps foe using vinyl paint for leadheads? proper thinning, dipping and drying techniques. I am new to jig making and i am trying to make it as error free as possible. also i am wondering how many skirt pads do you like to use for flipping jigs when making a full skirt. thanks in advance
Basseducer
stumpyfd, When I was using vinyl, I sprayed it. I had to thin it 50/50 to get it to flow and turned the the pressure down to about 30-35 psi. If I didn't thin it that much I would get spiderwebs. I used Zylol Zyleen to thin it with, but I suppose you can use any SLOW thinner. As far as skirts go, I usually use two pads on most jigs and sometimes three on the really big stuff. Sometimes I mix a little rubber in with the silicone for bulk. Hope this helps. Edited November 4, 2008 by Basseducer Spelling
21xdc
I always dipped using this paint. It is important to use their white as a base coat/primer. Then dip the color after it dries/sets up good... Then dip in their clear. Either use a drying wheel or let it drip off real good and before too long bump the bottom of the bait to get the excess off. I used a 2X4 and copper plumbing insulation wrapped over it to stick my hooks in to get the disired angle of drip I wanted. I cleaned off the eyelets before it was too hard. http://www.csipaint.com/instructions/techniques-instructions/applying-vinyl-paint.asp http://www.csipaint.com/index.asp Edited November 4, 2008 by 21xdc
charmerbaits
I always dipped as well and never used the white base coat. I've been dipping some baits in vinyl for 3 years now and never had a problem with it sticking or coming off. I dip in the desired color, let it dry and cure for a couple of days then dip in the clear coat. Charlie
