TightLinez
How difficult would it be to make a lure like the Black Dog Baits Lunker Punker? I've thought about buying one a few times, but I wanted to look over all my options before I dropped $50-$60 on one. Are balance issues as important with topwater baits, as they are with crankbaits? Thanks guys!
mark poulson
I can do it, so it's not too hard. Weight it so it sits horizontal in the water, floating, with 1/3 to 1/2 of the top part of the front section out of the water. Most of the body is in the water, just below the surface. The center of balance should be just behind the mid point. Round the bottom edges for less water resistance on the change of direction, or you'll be working hard to walk it. clamboni
I made one, it's a very easy lure. It's not quite as sculpted as the real one. I found a picture of the side profile of it, blew it up to the size I wanted, and traced it onto a piece of paper right off the computer screen. Just round off the edges and it'll work. Also, be sure that your front hook is at least at the low part of the belly. If you weight it evenly from front to back just enough so it doesn't lean to one side, the balance should be pretty good. I didn't really want to copy one, but the guy it was for insisted.
