pigdestroyer
From what I have read on here I am very wary of using one of these. I got a new custom mold and I think I may have to start using an injector to get the whole mold to fill out. Any tips on how to use these safely? -Jeremy
Bad Bouy
Have you tried heating the mold prior to pouring, what about varying the plastics temp, sometimes this helps, also strategically place air vents (tubes) might help as well. Advice on the injector, based upon what I have read here... Have a buddy hold it....
Vodkaman
Can you post a pic of the mold? Someone here may be able to advise. Dave
pigdestroyer
I have only tried poring it once. They are aluminum. The guy that made them said he never had the problem. He was using a heat gun and pouring at 350 deg. I usually don't take temp of my plastic before I pour. I am going to try that before I decide if I need an injector. I think I should be able to make it work. They come out good 30% of the time so it could just be human error. I will post a pic when if I am still having the problem. All of my stuff is kept in a friends garage.
MTfishingrods
I am leaning more towards Vacuum pouring than injection. However I used to be in the refrigeration buisiness so I have vacuum pumps already available. So that factors in also.
hawghunterbaits
Yep Take bad bouy's advice! Find a friend you really dont care for, pay him say 10 bucks and let him do it for you. It will be money well spent!!!!!!!! P.S. you might want to have a first aid kit handy also.
pigdestroyer
I haven't had a chance to get back to this yet. If I can't get it to pour, I am thinking of using a syringe. Pour half of the mold, modify the syringe to cover the whole and use air to push the plastic down. It seems like it should work OK in my head. MTfishingrods
Jeremy, Only you can decide if it is going to be OK. Just remeber BE SAFE!!!! That is 350 degree hot plastic that you are putting under pressure. If that seringe fails and that plastic hits skin, its not like it burns for a second and stops. It will burn and burn and burn. You will be sorry. So you decide. Anything can be done safely. Even if yours fail you can use measures to protect yourself so its all in your hands. I believe Lurecraft or JansNetcraft sells a plastic injector for just over $10.00 that is made to stand up to plastic temp so if I was doing it I would go that way. In fact I have two of these that I purchased with intentions of doing just what you want to do. Then common sense got the better of me and I found the posts on here talking about vacuum pouring, and that just sounded like a way better deal for me and my 10 year old son. I couldnt live with myself had one of them failed on him, and he enjoys doing this with me way to much to not include him so we just needed a safer way. Good luck and post your results.
