Del's molds

Recommended Posts

For you guys that order from Del, how long does it take to get your molds? I ordered 2 about 3 weeks ago. I have sent a couple of emails but no response. I know Del is probably really busy but I would like to at least have some idea of how long it will be. The last time I ordered from him it took about 2 weeks before he got them made. Not bashing him just looking for estimates.

Thanks Del. I imaged you were busy. I have been very satisfied with the other ones you made for me and looking forward to the two piece molds.

This is another question for anyone. I don't have the moonshine pouring hands that I use to. I was wondering if you could turn a one piece aluminum mold into a two piece mold by using a blank piece of aluminum for the second side and drilling out a pour hole at the top?

Lots of people do that with pretty good success.

You might get a dimple in the plastic on the flat side, however if you do take a piece of scotch bright and some wd-40 and scuff the flat piece up a tad.

the reason for this is plastic shrinks when its cool, on something flat it has nothing to hold it from shrinking( really mean "keeping it stuck to the flat surface). when you scuff up the side you give it something to addhear to.

Now its not going to stick were you have to pull it off so don't worry about that it will be kinda like a stick mold with ribs in it were the plastic can adhere to every groove/scuff mark in three places were as if its smooth it will slide off the top.

Hope that makes sence. if not look at a stick bait and imagine every rib is a scratch see who you have more surfaces to grab/hold on to the side.?

I have made molds with a mirror finish, basically polished them every groove every knook and cranny, this is fine for injection but hell for hand pouring, as you see dimples in wide smooth areas. Like a stick molds egg sack is a good example. polish to a mirror finish and you will get a dimple every time.

Gents,

Here we go again... The original question was "how long does it take (Del) to get your molds?" A simple question and Del provided a pretty simple answer.

This was followed by a question about modifying a mold and several members provided comments/suggestions on making those modifications and what to avoid - a pretty good thread to that point. Just what a public lure making forum should be, right?

Then we start to enter an area that many of us are probably tired of, the introduction of a private business transaction with one of the parties telling the entire world his private affairs. The second party will be compelled to defend their actions and blah blah blah.

So let me get to the point and go on record as saying that TackleUnderground.com is a Custom Lure Maker's site and most of us joined for that reason. This isn't the place to go off on fellow members about private transactions. That's between the two private parties.

Some history - Before writing this post, I did some research to see who these parties where and I discovered an interesting fact - Tunadoctor has only been a TU member since Oct, 2008 and in three of his four posts, the only content of his posts was about how long he has waited for a custom mold and the $277.94 he was charged in May.

Anyone who has been on TU long knows Del and knows he try's hard to only put out a good product and good advice/information - Del provided a response in public and there is mention of a problem and an estimated shipping date. There may have been some personal phone conversations, I know and really don't care.

Now, this thread gets hijacked for a complaint about the same private transaction.

I was just about to take action... Then, I thought I would let you, the TU membership, know how I view this matter and how I plan to deal with similar matters in the future - Just delete the effected posts in those threads as an "Off Topic Post" in accordance with TU Site Rule #5.

Rather than delete Tunadoctor's post, I am using it as an example with a warning to keep your private business transactions PRIVATE. Just for the record, I will delelet posts of this nature in the future as Off Topic Post Violations and give an infraction of 1 point. If a trend develops, a member can be banned from the site. Please heed this warning.

Sorry to have rambled on for so long off topic - let's get back on track with "Tackle Making" posts.

Thanks Bruce. I thought about this post for several days before actually making it. I will say again that I am not in anyway bashing Del.

Now onto tackle making. I was also wondering about the shrinking with a two sided mold like that. My previous experiences with a regular mold was if you didn't top it off like prochallenger says it would sink in the middle. I like the idea of scratching the surface to give the plastic something to adhere to and it will also give the bait some design on the flat side. I will try that. Thanks guys.

Bruce:

As an independent observer of this thread, you should also not allow the original post as it is completely about a personal transaction as well. I do not know any of the purchasers involved here.

Personally, this topic comes up over and over again and should be deleted immediately irregardless of the tone or implications or how long someone has been a member, or posted etc.

The topic following up is pertinent and interesting but a complete hijack of the original thread all together and would be considered an Off Topic Post in relation to the initial posting topic.

The question was not simply how long does it take for molds, there was also info such as no email reponses. All of this could be directed to Del without the board even being involved from the start.

Without "bashing" anyone, treat each member the same and don't allow any of these topics as it completely takes away from the mission of TU and its members.

Naw it doesnt bother me that people post ,everyone is entitled to thier own opinion comments. doesnt butt hurt me at all as long as they are truthfull like the above is.

I would never cover up the fact that I am late on some molds, as we do them as fast as we can with the one machine we have. we have no clue what will sell and when. we make molds 7 days a week just when you think you have stock something else sells out.

bottom line if in doubt call my shop number 623-931-9405 April always answers if she isnt on the line. or you can get ME by emailing del-mart@cox.net

For the record, I dont believe in deleteing anyones post especially off topic posts as off topic posts are usually the good informational ones. Rules are Dumb on a forum except for porn.
