TEE
Hello all, my name is Tee and thanks to you guys i am officially an addict...just ask my wife...lol. I joined in June, I think, and have been lurking and learning. Havent posed--didnt feel like I had anything to contribute. My new hobby, my wife calls my "mistress", has gone from one mold and a hot plate in the shed to me selling two of my cars and converting two bays of the garage into "the worm lab" and the tackle shop...always wanted a tackle shop. I was bagging some worms last night and putting them up on the pegboard and realized how far i had come, and then realized i could not have done it without your wisdom, insight, and experience. Thank you all so much. This is a great site with people to match. Hopefully i will be able to contribute my in the future. Thanks again. Tee P.S. How do you guys handle the wife issue? diemai
@ TEE When my 'old gal' first saw my early homemade shiny polished stainless steel spoons many years ago , she wanted something similar as earrings too , so occasional small jobs like that render my workshop worthwhile for her as well:) ! But I doubt , whether women would hang plastic worms on their ears , would they ? welcome at TU ! greetz , diemai
MTfishingrods
I would suggest the wife get a second job. This gives two benefits. It adds more income for more molds and tools. And second it gets her out of the house for an extra 8 hours a day so she dont know how much time you are really spending at this.
cadman
I don't know about you guys, but I have the best understanding wife in the world. I buy what I want, and I spend way tooooooo much time on this hobby( addiction, part time job, insanity, lunacy...etc) and she never complains. Yes I do have a full time job to pay for the bad habit above. Only problem I have with my wife, is that she wants everything painted pink. What in God's name is all that about. Nonetheless, she is also my tournament and fishing partner. Life couldn't be better. Edited November 22, 2008 by cadman
nova
I did something similar Cadman. I take my wife fishing as often as I can. She never really fished when she was younger but she found out she really likes it. She's also one of my best critics when it comes to colors and bait designs. Try and include your wife in what you're doing and even if she doesn't take you up on it, she'll know that you're thinking of her.(women like that) www.novalures.com
LooksLikeSinbad
Welcome aboard! Cadman, you are one of the lucky few Here is my advice about the wife: if she starts complaining and/or busting your chops about the fishing/tackle stuff just say: "yeah your right, I probably should spend my time and money on a different hobby like motorcycle racing, collecting automatic weapons, or gambling" * you can use any expensive and/or dangerous hobby and that will usually put the tackle hobby into perspective
Spike-A-Pike
Welcome TEE. I think most of us (on TU) are lucky enough to have understanding spouses when it comes to tackle making. Mine always seems to find funds in the budget to pay for my addictions... the boat, tackle making, fishing trips, etc. Mine was even willing to go to the 2008 TU Meet and is looking forward to May 2009 for the next one. I only have one minor concern; I think she has been swiping pairs of the spinners I make and selling them on the internet behind my back... I can't prove it, but they seem to disappear when I'm not looking. I guess that's something we need to thankful for on Thanksgiving Day. So do you think if I tell her I want a 30 foot Fountain Boat, she would settle for a 21 foot Ranger? Hey LLS if it doesn't work and she throw's me out of the house do you have room for a freeloading guest? Lately my wife has been watching me mix my powder colors, paint my jigs and asking a lot of questions about jig making.:?What worries me is that she'll steal all my ideas, and start competition right in my own house. How do you handle that. I know I will be done for, when she joins TU as an alias, and answers the same questions the way I do.
Spike-A-Pike
Or starts Mrs. Cadman's Custom Jigs, Rigs, and Plastics... Don't get too worried until checks from BassPro start coming to the house in "her" name, with letters and contracts asking her to endorse a line of lures she keeps secret from you. My wife wants to know if you need to buy a nice ear rings with #10 Indiana blades... Where'd all my musky in-lines go???
TEE
Thanks guys for the warm welcome and spousal advice. Actually i dont give her enough credit. She 's happy that i have a hobby and she knows it makes me happy. Deimai, she likes making jewelry her self and in building the shop i built an assembly station for us to work together. It is made of kitchen cabinets and countertop and is about 12 feet long she can work on her jewelry while i work on my baits. thanks for the advise. Bruce -Someone around here keeps stealing/hiding my tools, lures and glues, and I live alone. Get used to those spinners etc disappearing, it's a sign of old age. Still have 2 boats though, can't seem to lose one of them.pete
rsinyard
If things go south on you, we have a fund setup here on TU for divorce lawyers. I would like to see some pics of your tacklemaking setup. I am wanting to put up some peg board in my garage. I am already drawing up plans to install an overhead exhaust fan. TU will only make you crazier with all the good info from a lot of knowledgeable people. You better have an understanding wife like mine. I have woken up in the middle of the night, and came up with a brilliant idea in powder painting. Now how sick(screwed up, insane) is that. Then I would go downstairs, and try it out. Believe me this doesn't happen oten otherwise my wife would probably commit me to a nut house. BTW, my wife usually outfishes me most of the times.. But you know what, it's a psychological thing. If she catches fish and beats me who am I to complain. It's a win win situation. She brags about kicking my:censored:, and I get to buy all the tackle in the world. So what if my pride is a little hurt............
diemai
Forgot to mention , that my wife used to frequently outfish me as well , at least in a particular swim , a small river extented to a rowing race track , located a few miles southeast from the inner city of Hamburg/Germany . And she's exclusively using my homemade jigging spoons and weight-forward spinners to do it , so one more reason not to complain about my passion for lure making(or should I call it lunacy ?) TEE
i think the real reason she outfishes me is that she is usually wearing a bikini in the back of the boat...hard to concentrate on the fish. rsinyard i will take some pics and see if i can figure out how to get them on here. i appreciate your interest...cool seeing other peoples setups and ideas.
