Termite
Can anyone tell me which eye size to order for the poison tail jig? I'm getting the mold this week and can't find the size of eye I need. Thanks! Mark
Basseducer
The Do-It website has 2.5mm for all sizes.
21xdc
My poison tail mold model PTJ-3-AFS has 3 sizes 1/8, 1/4, and 3/8 oz. And they all have different size eye cavities. 4mm will fit in the 3/8. I assume 2.5mm is the 1/8 oz. I hope this helps.
Termite
Thanks for the replys guys. The problem I'm having is that the place I'm ordering them from has them in fractions of an inch not mm and the conversions I'm finding don't make much sense to me. This should be really easy but I can't seem to make heads or tails of it. Mark I found this... it should help! smalljaw
The 1/8oz uses 3/32" eyes and I haven't found them in 3D only flat and only at Barlows, the 1/4oz uses 1/8" eyes and the 3/8oz uses 5/32" eyes, and the 1/2oz you can use the 5/32" or 1/4" eyes, thats as far as I go but thats what you need for those jigs. Termite
smalljaw, Thanks for the info! Are there any secrets with this mold or pitfalls I should try to avoid? I have heard of some ppl having some trouble getting solid pours (i.e. having the collar and barb not fill correctly). Thanks again. TTDuckman
The poison tail has poured well for me once I got used it. Just heat the mold up before pouring (I usually pour about 3 rounds through with no hook prior to pouring). The poison tail is probably my favorite jig mold. It makes fantastic baits. When it comes to hook size, you may find that you would like to move up a size in the 1/4 and 3/8th. I prefer a larger hook. The 1/8 with the 1/0 makes an awesome little finesse jig. The 1/8 does not come with a pin as the FG12 is smaller than the FG30 for the rest of the poison tail sizes. You can use the back end (non business end) of a drill bit for a pin on the 1/8th. It works nicely. Mr. Chodor taught me that trick. The larger size mold pours well too. The full ounce jig is a monster. Now that 6/0 hooks are available, we will be using that in the full ounce.
