gunnie3035
Can someone tell me what are the three most popular/common 3D eye sizes for hardbaits.
Vodkaman
Gunnie3035, I would like to refine the question by adding eye size to length of body. I am interested myself also. Dave

Snax
1/8", 3/8" and 1/4" are very popular.
Bogbaits
It really does depend on the size of the lure,my most common sellers are 3mm 5mm 7mm Edited December 18, 2008 by prochallenger
justwannafish
I've always wondered if there is some "formula" to use. Say I make a 4" lure would I use a 1/4" eye? Personally, I just buy a bunch and hold one up to the blank and if it doesn't look disproportionate I go with it. It's hit and miss but it's what I do. Does anybody do anything more scientific? lockjaw
Pretty simple: small lure=small eyes. Large lure=large eyes. Don't make it too hard on yourself. Hold the eye up to the lure and if it looks good...it's good
Snax
The only time I try and match the eye size is if I'm doing a mooneye or walleye and they have larger eyes than normal and they are a prominent anatomical feature. Other than that go with what looks good to you.
Them Muskie Lures
I like to use oversized eyes in most cases. Other muskie fisherman have requested the largest eyes that I have when I have made baits for them. Does anyone know where I can get 1/2" or 5/8" eyes other than at Stamina? I am looking for a larger quantity purchase. Thanks, Greg Them
paulsvolks75
jann's netcraft has a good selection of eyes 4 color and size combinations thats where i got my last batch of eyes and im happy with them.
gunnie3035
Cape Cod Tackle has the best selection of 1/2" eyes. Quick shipping and they won't rob you for S&H. I can't say the same for the other suppliers mentioned.
rofish
I think the problem of finding the right eyes is linked mostly to the problem of who is going to fish the crankbaits, you or some other guys. If you are the one who is going to fish the lures, then you can save your money and make the crankbaits without eyes at all. The fish wouldn't care, or they might even be more interested in a blind minnow than in a normal one. If you intend to give your lures to others, then you don't have to make things more complicated thant they already are. Mother nature has given very small eyes to some fish, and very big to some others. So I agree with what it was already said before, that what you like best is the best for a certain lure.
