mikehamlin
Hello all, Well, I'm in somewhat of a predicament. I have a preference for using a flat eye hook and have recently seen that Do-It is making a mold for an Arky style jig with a flat eye hook. The problem en lies with that I have a VERY strong preference towards Gamakatsu and also Owner hooks; (It's mainly a confidence thing.) but this mold is only made to accept the Mustad 32798 BLN hook. What I was wondering is that if anyone has this mold and has successfully used Gamakatsu's 5941 to replace the Mustad it requires. Another option that I am very open to is buying a 60 degree Arky mold that accepts the Eagle Claw 730 hooks and modifying that to accept the Gamakatsu 5941. (Just a matter of probably center punching and using the correct sized drill bit correct?) Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Mike
dynamite
Hello Mike, I have that arky mold and use the Gamakatsu 5941 hook with it. It did take some modification. Since it is a heavier hook, I had to open up where the hook exits the collar and also make the eye larger. You may also need to vent it better in the collar area, to help it fill. Just take your time when modifying the mold. Much easier to take off more than try to fill in or have to file excess off every jig.
smalljaw
Take a look at Barlows web site for that mold, often they list several alternative hooks that will work with the mold you want. I'm noticing a trend that alot of the newer molds can accept Owner hooks without modifications.
