psilvers
I have heard Devcon 2T mentioned as a clear coat for jigs. Is this the same Devcon 2T that is sold as clear expoxy glue, or is it another formulation? Thanks, Pete
Vodkaman
Yes, it is the same stuff. Dave
psilvers
Thanks Vodkaman. I needed a coating that I could use after I put on some stick on eyes. I bought some Envirotex a few weeks ago, but i haven't had a chance to use it. I wasn't keen on the long cure time. I also bought some of the Devcon 2T epoxy. Hopefully, i will get a chance to try both this week. Pete
Vodkaman
Time IS an issue. When I started lure design, my aim was to limit the process to less that one hour, 30 min manufacture and 30 min finish. This is a very difficult target, but I think is possible. I think I upset a few people with the idea. The point is time is money, if you intend that lure building is to be your income, then a step saved can make a big difference. But cure times of days, or even weeks should not make any difference. It will make longer term , ramp ups of production slightly more difficult. The secret of an efficient production line, is that every process should take the same time to complete. This is a very complex subject that I have touched on, but the main message is that cure times should be factored in and waiting for a process to complete cannot be charged for. Time to produce one lure could be three weeks, but it would still be possible to produce 20 per day, with the correct organisation. But if you are just making a few for friends and family, do not concern yourself with time. Concentrate on quality and blow them all away. psilvers
Vodkaman, I am just making these for my own use. However, time is important. I need to have a reasonable space with an appropriate temp and good ventilation. I don't want to leave a heater on in my shop o/n, so Devcon seems to be the way to go. At least in Kansas at this time of year. Thanks, Pete
Downriver Tackle
I'm pretty sure the Envirotex would still need to be turned, or you'll end up with a huge drip because of it's really long cure time. I've always dipped in clear vinyl with great results. If you're looking for something harder and no fuss for personal quantities, the D2T may be the best for you.
