booneangler
Just wondering on what is the lightest spinnerbait wire that you will go with on making a 3/4 ounce night time spinnerbait. Would it be possible to use a wire that is designed for a 1/2 ounce spinnerbait?
spnrbatr
you could use .029 with a closed eye instead of an r-bend. I have not used that heavy of a SB on that small of wire. I use it for 1/2 oz. baits. If that is too small I know .032 would work.
booneangler
i would prefer a R Bend.
JSC
i would prefer a R Bend. You are asking for a lot of trouble with an "r" bend below .030 .. A twisted or "Safety Pin Coil" is better on the smaller wire. My JSC
Everettelee
I use .032 tig wire or .035 mig wire . Make your R bend then take a piece of telephone wire and make 2 loops around the R and put a drop of solder on the copper wire . A fish will bend the crap out of your wire but he won't straighten your R bend.
booneangler
i was just wondering what would be the lightest that i could go to without having to much of a problem. On a 3/4 ounce bait could i use a wire that calls for 1/2 ounce baits?
Everettelee
Make up a dozen and try them out , don't like them melt'em back down try again. I do it all the time.
booneangler
is there anyone that makes a short arm wire that you buy in bulk? Would the molds accept that or not? Never looked into this
21xdc
Normally a 3/4 oz SB uses a 41-45K wire. I see no need in thinner. The fish don't care either.
smalljaw
On that type of bait I would go with nothing less than .041, that'll work with an R-bend or coiled eye. I prefer the R-bend because it's easier to bend in the first place and I've had a few break offs because of the line getting caught in the coil of a closed eye bait. I landed a 16lb. catfish on a 1/2oz spinnerbait made with .035 wire and while in bent the wire pretty badly it still didn't straighten out the bend so I think you would be good to go with .041 on a 3/4oz bait. Munkin
About .035 is the smallest I would go maybe .032 if it is superstainless? I tried some .029 black wire frames from lurecraft or Luremaking (whatever one is in Canada) on some 3/4oz baits and they were terrible. Frame would bend on a hard cast and the #5 colorado just overwelmed the frame. Allen
booneangler
so if i go with a .035 for 1/2 ounce and a .041 for 3/4 i should be safe with a #5 Colorado blade???
