bdomina
Anyone done any multicolor hollow swimbait dips? how did you do it? I am trying to visualize it in my head before i tempt catastrophy. only thing i can think of is to do it horizontally. I have a few blades i made to try this out finally, any tips would be appreciated. otherwise it looks like i am looking for a small airbrush kit. thanks, Andy
gunnie3035
I've tried it before. I didn't like the results and all I did was make a big mess. I've did the dye colors used on spinnerbait blades. It works really good, but it bleeds. I gave all that up and went to an airbrush. If this is all your going to use airbrush for then Harbor Freight sells the whole set up for $50-$60 bucks. The cheap [$.99] wally world paint will shoot right through it if you thin it enough. It sticks to the plastic fairly well. I went this route, then got caught up in painting all kinds of stuff. I'm even thinking the cat would look a little more pimp if it had more stripes and gill covers...LOL Now I have four brushes, two compressors, and may be looking for a second wife if I don't stop. nova
Check out my web page. Some of the ST Series baits are dipped mutlicolor. www.novalures.com

Vodkaman
I used a car tyre pump to charge a gas cylinder. It worked very well. I did not use a regulator or anything. I had very little knowledge at the time, I just winged it. I was spraying bicycle frames. Dave
bdomina
also for those of you that are airbrushing your soft dip swimers. are you leaving them on the blade when you paint or taking them off first.
bojon
This dipping sounds a lot like horizontal dipping tubes. If you have it on a 90deg dipping handle you can dip it in a second color, example,a darker back.
bdomina
my thoughts are to dip as usual vertically: 1. Almost halfway in lets say a pearl white 2. about 3/4 in , in pearl holding flat so plastic sags more toward belly 4. in a flat pan just dip back . horizontally in smoke or black.. should require a 90 deg handle 5. dip whole bait in clear cool and pull bait off the blade / knife whatever you want to call it trim paddle tail if necessary catch a big fish
gunnie3035
My baits are a little different than dipping blades. So I use a custom paint board I built. But if I were painting them using a blade I would leave them on then dip in clear after paint/eyes. I don't know if that type of compressor would work or not, but I believe the compressor would quit. They were not made to run for extended periods of time. And it will quit at the worst possible moment.....
