flat frog hair rubber

Recommended Posts

Just bought some of the round FH at a local show this past Sat. It is nice(great color)..... Can not wait to use it.. It should make some real nice skirts.it really is not much bigger than the flat, but with some different colors. Maybe I will get some pics up in the future. Good luck and God bless, boxcar.

Sorry for the double post, sometimes my thinking is a bit slow, but...........just an additional thought or two.

The best way to find some of the old flat frog hair(IMPO) would be to check out small mom and pop shops in your area and keep an eye out on the web. Another thought is to check out local archery shopsI, i think the flat rubber has been used on hunting bows. I hate to say this, but if you find it buy all you can, I have looked for hours on the web for it to no avail, and the small shops are getting fewer and fewer.

Good luck and God bless, boxcar

I have some of the square cut frogs hair living rubber in brown and black.. This is very hard to come by anymore and is not cheap...

Just curious, why would you want the square cut over the round cut. Or put another way, What is the advantage to using it instead of the round ?

JBlaze, a lot of the old timers I know say that square cut has more bounce and movement compared to the round. For me all it does is melt.

Thanks SmallJaw, I Was just curious. I'm almost an Old Timer I should know that. I still have some of the old square cut in black and brown and possibly a little avocado and some pale orange if I remember right. I do know that 20 years ago that I used to catch a lot more big fish than I do now. I just assumed that it was pressure and a lot of the big ones having been caught out. I guess I'll give it a try again if it hasn't gone bad. Its been at least 15 years maybe longer since I have tied this stuff.
