LakersFan
I got a bunch of clear weedguards for free from a friend. Would you recommend using them on regular(colored) jigs like green pumpkin or brown, as opposed to only on white/shad pattern jigs? Do you think it makes a difference to the fish? Is it possible to paint them yourself? If so, what kind of paint do you use that's effective, won't wear off after prolonged use, and can be bought cheaply and locally? Thanx in advance.... reeves
LF, I don't think the fish really care at all. As long as you are not selling them and keeping them for your personal use there should be no problem. Don't know if it would work, but you might try some of the Spike It dip used on soft plastic baits. Good Luck
Basseducer
Alex, You can use any of the color dips or color pens, the ones with scent are different. You can also use any of the permanent markers like sharpie or marks-a-lot, but they don't last as long and its best to let them sit out for a few days before you use them. This lets that marker smell go away.
LakersFan
I've heard that also about the blade dip. Sharpies? Really? I'm gonna try that. I really like the sharpie idea though. Do you think the color will fade after soaking the jig for prolonged periods of time? Would it be wise to get another type of permanent marker that is larger with a flat tip on it, so that I can almost "brush" the weedguard with it? Basseducer
I have always dipped the weedguards before putting them in the jig. You can paint the weedguard on the jig with the sharpie and the big pens. It gives them color, but they are still transluscent, looks really cool. LakersFan
I found this guy online: ^The Bullet Jig^ Big Bass Baits Fishing Products Scroll down the webpage and you'll see custom colored weedguards. I wonder what he was using to color them? Wish I knew?
Basseducer
Those look exactly like the ones colored with the markers, you can even mix colors.
LakersFan
Any markers in specific or just plain old sharpies?
Basseducer
Yeah, sharpies or the big chisel point marks-a-lot. They also sell some specially for fishing applications.
