cast iron

im currently meting lead in a cast iron pan on a outdoor propane cooker. it works very good but looking for a deeper pot. where do you reccommend i get the best deal on a cast iron pot. nothing huge, something that will hold 20 to 30 pounds would be perfect. i doubt ill be getting the best deal from anyone that sells lead melting equipment.

Army surplus stores and flea markets might have some cheap ones on hand. I have bought cast iron at flea markets real cheap. I use cast iron for melting and using babbitt.

have you tried probass i know they carry a cast iron dutch oven like a big cook pot out of cast iron

My grandfather was a plumber and, while I'm dating myself, he used a similar rig to melt down lead used to seal the old cast iron drainpipes. They used a metal ladle to pour the lead. He bought his lead in ingots from the plumbing supply store.

Check local hardware stores if you have any around. Not HD or Lowes, but one of the little ones that have been around forever. A lot of people are surprised at what you can find in those stores.
