LakersFan
Has anybody tried gorilla glue for securing your fiber weedguard to your jighead after painting? I know most will recommend Devcon, which I know works too, but just wanted to see if Gorilla Glue has worked for anyone, as it is 100% waterproof as well. Pros? Cons? If you've tried it let me know.... Thanx!
bigoldjimbo
Tried it and I like it. I've never used hte Devcon, but the Gorilla Glue really holds the fiber guards well after curing. -jim
WannabeeFishing
I've used Gorilla Glue for woodworking. It is a moisture release adhesive. I'm not sure how it will perform when dunked in water. I do know it expands as it sets and the excess has to be scraped off a wood joint. But afterwards, the wood will fail before the glue does. Test it on something than one of your prize lures. And maybe dip it into water for a couple of hours to see how it does. Gary

Ever had any of the weedguards come apart or anything after use? Any excess glue as a result of expansion as mentioned by WannabeeFishing? Birdman
I personally do not have much experience with wire baits but I have lots of experience with Gorilla Glue and wood baits, primarily glueing weights with screw eyes in baits made commercially. You do have to watch it as it sets as it likes to expand. After a while you'll get good and gauging how much to use and how much not to use. If it does expand out of the whole or joint and you don't get to it in time, a straight end razor the next morning trims it off very nicely. Since switching to Gorilla Glue, I have not received one complaint regarding weights pulling out. We started using it full time in the Spring of 05 so that's somewhere in the range of 15 to 20,000 baits. Very impressive results. I can't imagine it not working on wire or metal surfaces. There is even a newer version of Gorilla Glue that sets up faster and clearer. Haven't tried it yet-afraid to deviate from a good thing. wiredhatred
Now, Im safe assuming it is regular gorilla glue you guys are talking about right? Ive tried their gel glue in the tubes like super glue and found that if any gets on the guard where you can see it, itll turn white. I also have some regular gorilla glue I havent even opened yet. Does that stuff dry clear? If so, I need to crack that bottle open...been sitting in my tool box waiting for a purpose.
Birdman
Yup, it's their original formula, a brown glue that comes in a squeeze bottle. It dries a foamy off-white, almost beige. The trick, as was discussed, is to be sure and wipe any excess off while it is setting up-usually about 30 minutes after first applied. I only use it before the prime to ensure all paintwork will cover any excess. Do a dry run with two pieces of whatever before trying it out on a bait. And whatever you do, remember, it does not work well hemeroids.
mikel7@mac.com
I've had very good luck with ol crazy glue from the dollar store. I've used gorilla for other things but due to the mess i just never tried it on jigs.
