Bobs Molds

Recommended Posts

he has a basstrix style mold? is it just the one that says 4" swimbait? or does someone have a picture of it or a bait it produced?

I think if you search the gallery there is a pic of the basstrix style minnow he makes. If I remember right, the bait shown is translucent.

Gunnie...that 5" in the top picture is AWESOME! :worship: I have been looking for a swimbait mold have been torn on what to do...until i saw that! Is thats Bob's mold? If so I have not seen where he sells a 5". Do you pour them like any other two color laminate or how does it work in that mold...that thing is bad a$$. Also, it looks like on Bob's site the the eyes protrude outward, hard to see, how do you keep your eyes on the bait? It looks like your bait eyes have a recesseed hole to add eyes. Any other pictures of that bait would be great. thanks!

I think the topic was about Bob's molds that were not pictured on his site. If your looking for something chances are he has made it or can make it. Drop him a note or give him a call. He is a pretty good dude.

Regarding the 5" paddle tail; It isn't on his site, you will need to contact him. The mold has a hook pocket [small sliver of metal in the mold], similar to a zoom fluke. What I did was dip the hook pocket [metal piece] in chartreuse. I put the mold together and poured the pearl white. When the plastic get near the opening on the mold quit pouring immediately. Just barely let the plastic reach the opening, don't go any further. As we all know the plastic will shrink and suck back down into the mold. This creates an air pocket. The I poured the pearl blue.

If your fast enough you can pour the blue before the white shrinks too much and it will suck the blue right back on top of the chartreues. I will check and see if I have a picture that shows what I'm talking about.

The eyes on this particular mold are recessed a little. I just glue the eyes on, but they probably won't hold for any length of time. You can dip this bait in clear if you so choose to seal the eyes or even the hook pocket. But it does add quite a bit of plastic to the bait and washes out the texture. I hope this made sense. It will work on any bait where you want to add a little color to the top end of a bait.

I will look for a picture of a more translucent bait to show what I'm talking about.

Here is a picture of the mold; the center piece is for the hook pocket mold. The blue on the back was just poured by tipping the mold. I was never able to repeat this process [the blue] on a consistent basis.

This is a different mold, but it will help ya get the idea. The metal for the hook pocket was dipped in pink. Then the white was poured. Then pink was again poured as the white was cooling. Time it right and it will look like one solid color. Disregard the blue on the back, it was airbrushed on then dipped in clear.
