gone2long
Hi folks new to the site and worm making, found it's like eating that first potato chip and it's all over:lolhuh: Anyhow I've made some plaster molds which surprisingly work quite well my question is has anybody heard of painting the mold with high temp engine paint? I've had some small issues with release, I've tried silicone sealer for grout but results didn't seem to change. Appreciate any feedback pos or neg. Thanks, Chris
Die Hard Custom Baits
I tried just about everything and I have stuck with elmers glue all with water. Some say 50/50, but I actually do about 75 glue 25 water and do at least 3-5 coats. Just make sure you don't lose too much detail and watch out for it pooling in certain parts of the mold. The engine paint did not seem to stick to the plaster and would chip or peel off when I pulled the bait out. Another thing to watch for is brushing in the glue/water mixture too hard and wearing away the detail. I did this also on a couple molds. Might have been because I didn't let the mold dry totally before trying to seal it. Just make sure you get into every little nook and cranny of the mold too, or you will have releasing problems. Hope this helps. I'm sure the other guys here will chime in too. They all have helped me out TONS!!! Good luck.
skeeterdan
go down to the lumber yard and get a large bag of plaster any try anything you like. we learn by trying new things, and if the mold dont turn out very good, just toss it and start over. the plaster is cheap. The more molds you make the better you will get. I like to seal the plaster with epoxy, its gives my molds a glassy finish.
