brent19
I take the nickel blades and use the spike-it dip too dip them different colors. My question is what does the manufactures use to coat them for durablity? I've used dexron and it doesn't seem to be very durable. The spike-it will coat them fine but comes off easy after using it a short time. Thanks for any help. Brent
cadman
You might wantto bake them right after dipping in Spike-It. Then I use Devcon 2 Ton 30 minute epoxy(D2T). BTW what is Dexron?
diemai
@ brent19 I have always colored some of my blades by brushing on white primer , after painted with rattlecans and/or model making enamels , finally topcoated them with a two-component cleargloss . Don't know about dipping , though , but I would advise you to first roughen up the blades surfaces , either by sanding , brushing with a rotating steel bristle brush or even by finer sandblasting . The latter might possibly also remove the nickel layer on the blades , so you'd get down to the bare brass . Furthermore you should clean off the blades with alcohol just prior to dipping and after possibly not touch them anymore , since the grease in your skin could hinder proper adhesion of paint as well . I've had good experience that way , the paint didn't chip off as easily , a rough and clean surface is essential for a good adhesion of any paint . good luck , diemai
