mark poulson
Does putting on a clear top coat with UV protection, so it won't yellow, protect the layer underneath it from UV, too, or will they still yellow?
K.C.K.
UV protection it exactly that it should protect what is underneath it. put that aside one thing that yellows epoxys it exposure to heat like being left in the rod locker for the summer.I have had epoxy yellow without seeing a day of sunlight... hazmail
KCK- I know what you mean with the heat bit, I lost about 10 flatfish while fishing last summer, they got so hot in the sun they expanded to about double their size. As for UV protection, maybe we could rub them all down with some of this. pete BullFrog Sunblock
21xdc
I thought about mixing some sun block 45 into my e-tex...
BobP
Only fish at night, and only on nights without moon. Come home before dawn and store all baits in a refrigerator - oh, and pull the fridge's light bulb. And buy a good pair of night vision goggles. So says Batman! Mark, my bet is there will be some protection to the underlying layers. Edited February 4, 2009 by BobP
mark poulson
I think we've all been out in the sun too long. I tried to give a lure some UV protection by spraying it with a clear gloss rattle can finish with UV protection. I don't know if it's UV protected now, but it sure as hell softened the epoxy top coat. Weird.
Downriver Tackle
Does putting on a clear top coat with UV protection, so it won't yellow, protect the layer underneath it from UV, too, or will they still yellow? They'll still yellow, just at a slower rate. No clear stops all UV rays, that's why there's exterior and interior grade pigments. Some rays always get through. Acrylics and automotive urethanes(not household urethanes) offer the best UV pretection. Both have a natural resistance, even without additives. mark poulson
So mixing fine glitter with Minwax Polyacrylic and painting it on over the Createx, before I epoxy, actually adds an additional layer of UV protection. Nathan, you sly devil!
