drof99
The plastic that I am pouring with seems a little sticky to me. Is this normal. I let them sit overnight and they will stick to each other. Now they are not stuck together but still they are a little tacky. I have not added any worm or oil to them. I added no softner to these. Can someone tell me if I'm doing something wrong?
bear21211
drof did you make sure your plastic was mixed well? Are you getting to the bottom of your container?
JSC
Sounds like you may be in a cold place .. plastic gets that way when real cold. Let us know if that is not it. JSC
bassnfool
The plastic needs to be mixed better the next time.
bojon
MIX,MIX,MIX! You have to make sure to get any stuff off the bottom into suspension.
drof99
The plastic is stored indoors. Right now I'm also pouring inside. Runs between 65 and 70 inside. I mixed the plastic by shaking the heck out of the gallon jug it came in. If it matters its Calhoun plastic. I'm not actually putting a stick or something inside the jug and stirring. I shook the jug for a good 15 minutes. Even had the kids jumping around with it for a bit! The opening is small enough I don't know that I could get a stick inside the jug. Is this an acceptable way to mix? Now just to clear up a little more. I have not added any worm oil. The baits are not actually stuck together. If I take a bait and set it on another one and then lift the first one it won't take the second one with, if that makes sense as all. They just feel a little tacky. I was just wondering if that seems normal.
saint308
I found that it takes Calhoun's a little longer to fully cure. How long have they been this way? Saint.
drof99
I haven't poured alot of tubes with this plastic. The sticks and chunks that I have poured I really didn't pay to much attention to. I just set them out overnight and coated in worm oil. Then stuck them in a bag and that's were they have been ever since. I haven't poured with this plastic for a couple months. It has been stored inside. I just started pouring tubes again and am trying to cut the tails. That's when I have noticed that they are a little sticky. I really notice on the tails because the stick together. If I put a bunch of oil on them it makes them less tacky. Can the plastic go bad after some time? Am I doing something wrong? Like I posted earlier I just shook up the jug for a good 15 minutes to mix it. I even turned it upside down to mix. Is that a decent way to mix it up? I appreciate all the help on this. By the way, I have let the tubes sit overnight before attempting to cut tails.
Smallie
When it was upside down could you see white stuff stuck to the bottom? If so, that is what you need to get back into suspension.
Richard Prager
If I am understanding this correctly, they are sticky to the touch and not "sticky" as in too soft. If this is the case, then I don't see any problem at all. I believe I read somewhere to put a drop of worm oil on the tail cutter and this will make cutting the tails quite a bit easier. drof99
Once again guys, THANK YOU! I could see a separation before mixing. After I mixed I could not see anything. I'll pay closer attention to the bottom of the jug next time. Yes they are sticky to the touch. The problem I'm having is on tubes. The tails are sticking together after being poured. Kind of weird but here is something else I noticed yesterday. The tubes were poured a couple days ago. If you set them on a piece of paper, like a receipt, they will take the paper along with them when you pick them up if that makes sense. I never noticed a problem before because I was pouring Del's sticks and chunks. Which come out perfect and I can't wait to get them in the water. Maybe there is nothing wrong. I'm just trying to get the tails to look better.
pastorshane
For what its worth. When I first started pouring, I had some "tacky" feeling sticks so I cut them up and reheated them again and they were fine the next pour. Sometimes if the plastic does not heat to high enough temp for a short period of time they do not seem rite. Just my opinion.
finfever
Like PS mentioned above the plastic may not be hot enough or you may have got it too hot. I use a microwave and mine is 1min per oz. of plastic on high power. Mixing properly is good thing. I also shake my 1 gallon jugs at least once a week reguardless if i'm using that gallon jug or not. Hope this helps.
squigster
An easy way to solve the problem atleast with the sticky tubes you already made is to roll them in salt. The tails seperate really nice when they are salted. I actually dont like the look of any of my tube tails unless they are salted. It is harder to tell exactly what color they are if you salt them heavily but I number my colors and put them on the bags anyways and they go in the bags easier.
