hoonin
I am thinking about getting into pouring my own worms, and was wondering about how many trick worms you can get out of a gallon of plastic. There would be other types of worms I would like to make but this will give me an idea if it is alot cheaper to pour them yourself. Thank you for any help. jimcline
Just guessing, but i would think you'd get between 500 and 700 worms that size depending on the length and thickness. JIM
drof99
I'd say Jim has a fairly good number. I was like and wanted to pour worms so I could save some money on my fishing. I have to warn you since no one has. This is very addictive! Once you get a mold and some worms you'll want more. You will have so many soft plastics laying around the house you'll have to sell some of them. Just remember, you have been fore warned! You can't blame us now. Delw
I think jim is pretty close as well. Years ago LC said that you could get about 800 6" worms out of a gallon of plastic and they were pretty darn close and right on the money for a 6" one sided mold. Bassgrabber
Here's a tip on how to figure out how many.. If you are heating 4 oz of plastic, keep track of how many worms that makes. 8oz should double your number and so on. There is 128 oz per gallon so you should be able get a pretty good estimate. If you plan on selling them, keep the price of a gallon of plastic, the amount of product made, and factor in your time when putting together a price list. Time how long it takes to for you to pour 4 oz. I have broken it down all the way to cost per ounce for the baits I am making, qty per ounce, time of production per oz. It really helps you stay somewhat in the black when you factor in cost/time/return. It cost me 2.80 to make 30 baits. 1.5 hours spent on pouring, trimming, packaging. The return on the investment must be positive.
Pitbull Baits
You also have to figure in how much salt you use that will stretch the plastic also.
