Glitter on tubes

Recommended Posts

While going through the craft section at wall-mart I saw some glitter and glitter glue for crafting. I'm wondering if I can make tubes, let them cool, put glue and glitter on them (like on the back) then dip them in clear to lock the glitter in? Would the hot plastic cause the glitter and glue to run down the side, or would the plastic cool fast enough not to effect it?:?:?

I wouldn't recommend using craft glitter. You should probably get some from one of the guys that sell it here on this board. The craft stuff usually can't take the heat. Why not just mix your glitter in the hot plastic and then dip or pour your tubes? It works for me. JIM

Craft glue and most craft glitters that you see in Michaels will not hold up to the heat. I just bought some holographic stuff and was dumb enough to dump it in 8 oz. of plastic only to spend the next 20 minutes digging out broiwn clumps. Some of their stuff will work but you are better off ordering it from someone that sells it specifically for this.

Stay away from craft glitter.I can't imagine how much plastic I ruined way back when. When dipping I have the rod in the plastic for less than a second, and even then you may have trouble.I see it sliding down and distortig while cooling.Have you thought about painting with acrilics? This would solve what you are trying to do.Mix a non craft glitter with the clear acrilic and paint. You will have to dip a final time in clear to protect the paint because the paint film is easily destroyed prior to the final dip. Before painting let the tube cool, then wash and dry with hand soap,or alcohol.I use hand soap before painting because the tube surface has a oily surface.Send me a email and I will send some photos of the paints I use,and painted tubes. My email kocron@comcast.net
