akriverrat
cc600 forms went up a few bucks since i bought last and im looking at a new mold that uses brass eyes and not a through wire form. is it easy enough to bend these up myself? couple nails in the right spot for a jig should give me the right length. the cc600 is jsut a couple 180 bends and the new mold would be looped on both ends with probably a .050 wire. any special tools i need or just the wire bending pliers? reeves
rat, The brass eyes are called figure 8's and are mainly used in sinkers. I use both and off the top of my head, couldn't tell you which is cheaper. Would have to check tomorrow when I go to the shop. If you are going to make the CC wire form, I would get a little blue bender. It could be done easily with pliers, but the bender would more insure the wire stays on the same plane. Personally, I prefer to cast using the brass eyes, easier to control in the mold.
akriverrat
strength is my main concern as well as my customers. has there been any tests done on the breaking strength or (pull strength) of brass eyes? i know i feel more comfortable with a through wire form on any lure that is acting as part of the mainline. i see people promote through wire construction. thanks for the tip reeves, i havent heard of the little blue bender. ill look it up. reeves
rat, Not a problem with the brass eyes. Like I said, they are called Figure '8' sinker eyes because they are shaped like an eight, you only see what is outside the lead. Should you decide to use them, PM me and I will give you the contact for the cheapest place I have found to get them, the manufacturer - no middleman. I have never heard of one failing, or a CC form either.
reeves
rat, Forgot! The little blue bender is available most everywhere, Barlows, Hagens, Janns, BPS, just everywhere. Pretty inexpensive too.
