COBRA
my day job i fix airplane parts. next door to us in the same building is a machine shop. they do my machine work. well i started eating lunch and one of the guys in the shop said something about smoke. i got up and saw 1/2 of our 3 units had wafting smoke. we all couldnt figure out where it was coming from. we all scrambled and checked the main building wire room, and ran up to the loft and server room, and started pulling panels from the electronics lab ceiling. nothing, wtf. i went outside to see if i could figure out anything. it was the machine shop. the owner was melting plastic on a hot plate trying to make a cheaper way of a complicated mold we are working on and had a customer stop by. well he forgot about the plastic on heat. the plastic over heated, burst into flames, then set the wood backing on the work bench on fire and torched a small area very quickly. it engulfed the shop in nasty black smoke, which had gone through the ceiling into our unit. luckily they hit the fire with an extinguisher and nothing really got destroyed. another lesson never to get distracted. i am talking about a close to 4000 sq ft unit loaded with smoke all because a small batch of plastic overheated and burst into flames. luckily no harm done and no one injured. carolinamike
Cobra, Sorry to hear about the fire. Sounds like a couple of people might have been exposed to the smoke off of the plastic. If within the next day or so if anyone of these folks start feeling bad in any way, do not let them hesitate, tell them to go to the doctor and tell him that they have been exposed to smoke and fumes that can cause serious chemical pneumonia. I'm real serious, don't play around with this stuff. From what I understand, it can take very little exposure to do damage. If you haven't yet, check out the thread that I posted "Burning plastic warning". Just thought I'd give you a heads up. I don't want to see anybody get seriously ill. Just something to keep in the back of your head for the next few days.
Vodkaman
My problem is that I get bored easily, I think I suffer from attention defecit dissorder (ADD). A typical thought process: I'm bored watching these fries cook, I'll just check for new posts. Ahh interesting. I'll just post a quick reply. I'd better google, check my facts. Whats that smell? ARRGHHH!! Where did I put that business card for the decorators that I used last time? I now use a pocket alarm clock. Also, I never leave the kitchen when cooking. If I ever visit your home, you best restrict me to the bar. Glad everyone was OK, thanks for this thread Cobra and Mike. Dave
