Magnet Maker
I have recently started molding baits using Smooth Cast 300 and 320. Both products have produced baits with pin holes which are so small that paint or primer will not fill the holes. Any suggestions on how to eliminate the pin holes and what is the preferred primer for molded baits?
MR KNOW IT ALL KIND OF
Bondo glazing putty! You can buy it at a automotive supply store. After you sand 30 or 40 lures.. I promise if you ever sell them.. you will want 100 bucks for ever one you make!
WannabeeFishing
Thanks for the heads up. I just received my first Smooth-on order. I also got an order of Featherlite. I'll post if I have the same issue. Gary
fishcrazy
Smooth cast is very moisture sensitive and causes small pinholes from this reaction. Always spray the container with extend it which removes oxygen from the container before closing and I use it to get rid of the bubbles from mixing by spraying the top of the mixing container before pouring into the mold. Hope this helps. Mike
RiverMan
Are you sure the pin holes aren't in your mold?
Magnet Maker
Riverman, "Are you sure the pin holes aren't in your mold?" Yes they vary in location from part to part.
redg8r
If your casting in silicone molds, try spraying the mold cavities with oil base primer before casting.
