MTfishingrods
Its all up to you. Whatever your time is worth. Some are going to say its to cheap some will say its about right. Only you know the answer. Will you stay home from a fishing trip to make baits for that price?
Bassgrabber
In my opinion, that is too small of an order (20 of multiple colors) unless the colors are something that more folks will want..Is it a hot color that would warrant you making 50 - 100? If you know that more folks than just this customer will want this color, do a run of 50 - 100 of each. Then you can Fill this order and have the others packaged and ready for sale. Don't just use 1-4 ounces of product for something that only one person will want. (Especially if it is several custom color pours in small amounts.) Make positive use of your time. Set minimum amounts for custom pours. 25- 30 pieces. Figure out how many worms you can make with 4-8 oz of plastic. Here is a breakdown that I did on cost per ounce to give you an idea.. Cost per gallon = 44.00 + tax and shipping (50.00) 128 oz per gallon Approx 0.35 per oz Example: 8 oz of plastic = 60 6" worms 0.35 per oz x 8oz = 2.80 1 hour to handpour Packaging cost per pack = .20ea 4.00 + sales tax per pack of 12 worms = (4.31) 60 pieces = 5 packs of 12 x 4.31= 21.55 (Including tax) Total profit off of 1 hours work minus the material cost = 18.85 (after tax paid) Even if I pay for shipping, (USPS 1st Class) I still end up ahead after selling 5 packs of worms. Delw
hey i got my first order for some 10 inch curltails ..... the person wants 10 purple body red tail worms,,, 5 solid purple ,,,,2 chartreuse with red tails, and 3 white worms......its twenty worms.....do you think 9 dollars shipped seems fair......because ive seen some worms that were plain twenty for 10 bucks shipped your kidding right? for something like that I would charge 9 bucks per color per bag. so that would be 27 bucks. then he can take out the 3 of this and the 2 of this and give the rest to his friends etc etc. That there would be a complete waste of time to pour and would cost you more to make than it was worth. just ask the guy, when he goes to mc donalds does he order a chicken nugget, 3 french fries 3 onion rings and one ice cube? if he answers no then ask him why. I can't believe some people are that cheap.
Pitbull Baits
I would do it. Just to get your name out. The amount is up to you Just figure how many you can make with a gallon + shipping for the gallon. Then figure how much they each cost tack on a little extra. Then if they say thats too much tell them to go buy Culprits by the pack for each color (LOL).

Bassgrabber
Del I loved your example..1 nugget,3 fries,...LMAO Tyler, just be careful..There are vultures out there. I have only been in business for a couple of weeks and I already have folks wanting me to do 400+ piece orders on my trailers.. 50 of these,75 of those, 100 of these, and they ask me if I can do it and what the price would be.. When I lay it out and tell them the price on the order I never hear from them again. Some people want quality custom designs for next to nothing.. I had one person tell me that he can get 500 chunks for 50 dollars. I told him to go buy them!
Bass-Boys
Tylerd, I would figure out how many baits you can get out of a 4 oz. batch. and make that your min. of each color.. I get a little more for 2 color baits.. ( example- put 1 colors baits in packs of 10-12 and put 2 color baits in packs of 8-10 and charge the same per pk.)you also need to get started some where.. so its your call..learn as you go.. take in all the info we have posted and do what works best for you.. --- When I figure my cost.. I figure... Plastic,, softner & or hardner,,salt,, color,,,scent,, Glitter,,oil & packaging.... --- scent is exspensive,,the highest cost of all additives,, so use sparingly..but I prefer to always use scent.. ----- for the glitter , softner, hardner, oil, salt, scent,, I price by the teaspoon or table spoon,,,, for color, by the drop.. use an empty color bottle and fill with water and see how many drops of water you get,,, after you get your cost figured,, you can average the cost of batches out.. because some batches use more or less of the additives,,so find a good average cost per batch.. ----- if you are buying plastic by the gallon,, oils, glitters & scents ect,,by the pint colors by the 1-2 oz. I would guess $ 2.00 for a 4 oz. batch.. thats with scent, color,, oil,,,glitter,,plastic,,softner & or hardner.. plus add for packaging.. ------
