rustyman
Any input on the best way to make a hook slot in a silicone swim bait mold? Thinking of recasting the clay form in urethane, then cutting the slot with my dremel. Do pics have to be resized usually on this forum? longhorn
I'm not understanding the question...is this an existing mold or one you're making...sometimes I'm just dense...especially after a few beers. nova
I would take an exacto knife and cut a slot in the bottom of the silicone mold. Then insert a piece of metal in the shape of the hook slot you want, up through the bottom of the mold. Then just pour your baits. The metal should have the shape of a "T" so that you won't have to re-insert the metal each time you remove a bait. www.novalures.com
rustyman
I'm not understanding the question...is this an existing mold or one you're making...sometimes I'm just dense...especially after a few beers. Sorry man, sometimes my fingers go faster than my brain. I've already made the first mold of the clay casting with no hook channel. I was thinking of pouring hard plastic in the mold and cutting a slot in that. I think nova's idea is good. I don't really know how important hook slot are. I know they are to keep the running straight up and down. I don't know if a bass will care. Minnows don't swim straight when wounded. I guess for hook set to though. longhorn
When I designed my first swimbait I did it solid without a hookslot. It worked just fine but usually the hook tore through the side on the first fish also it was more difficult to rig. I added a hookslot and it solved the tearing problem and is much easier to rig. I don't think the slot will help the bait swim any better though. I like Nova's idea too. I did a post when I added the hook slot in my POP mold but it may work for silicone if you want to make a master to make other molds. Do a search for adding a hook slot and it shows up on the first page. It may give you some ideas. Good luck and let us know how it comes out.
