Batson Rainshadow ISB series in Rx7 or RX8+, St. croix SCIII or SCIV, G Loomis, CTS. Now, whether or not you can get them in Australia - i have no idea - I'd start by finding rod building suppliers there and seeing what they have available. I'm sure that most of the US based guys would ship to you as long as you covered the costs - which i'm guessing won't be cheep! i'd start here: The RodWorks - Producers of Fine Fishing Rods - Home looks like they carry Loomis and CTS among others, i would give them a call and see if they can recommend something from their lineup. Looking at the site more - i see they do carry ALPS components which would lead me to believe they might be able to get Batson blanks as well. hazmail
Dude/Phil, thanks for all this information. Phil the blank manufacturer you are probably thinking of is 'Sabre'. I was thinking I might be able to get blanks/components cheaper from U.S/Canada or Japan - 'G Loomis' spin blanks start at $150 here, which is ridiculous when you buy all the bits it probably would add up to $500 + labour. Dude, saying Aust / New Zealand is the same place, is like saying Canada / US is the same , It's about 1200 miles from here, and they speak some funny English dialect there, which no one can understand anyway. Thanks again for your help, 'Rodworks' will give me a yardstick anyway. pete
philB
Pete 1200 miles is nothing to a globetrotter like yourself and just like a run to the end of the street. I have seen them New Zealand fellas with their tatoos and sticking their tongues out at everyone they come across . The price of rod blanks here is just the same as Oz, thats why I gave up the idea as a non starter. I suspect you can go down to your local shop and buy two fine made up rods for the cost of the materials to make your own, crazy.

philB
Visitors to the UK have the same problem, telling the difference between a Yorkshire man and an English man.Dave Let me clear up whatever confusion may surround Daves post here and now, as some on the board may wonder why Dave, who is from Lancashire, should single out Yorkshiremen and may not even know of Yorkshire. The UK is split into counties much like the States. Two of those counties are bordering each other separated by hills known as the pennines which run straight down the middle of the North of England, the two counties are Lancashire and Yorkshire. There has always been a rivalry between these two counties brought on primarily by the weather. You see it always rains in Lancashire as they are subject to the westerly effects of the Atlantic whereas in Yorkshire the sun shines for 95% of the year. This weather system has a lot to answer for as it must be very unpleasant living in an area that is constantly overcast and raining for 95% of the year. This has given the men of Lancashire a terrible chip on their shoulders, I know this as they are always hunched over and have to wear gabardine raincoats all the time, they also suffer from fungal growths due to the warm dampness inside the raincoats. They have over the years attempted to make inroads into Yorkshire to escape this miserable existence but have failed on all occasions this being due to the Yorkshiremans superior stature and physique. After several centuries of failure the Lancastrians decided to attempt a sporting supremacy over Yorkshire on the cricket field. This has again failed miserably. To sum up. Lancastrians = Small damp hunched individual in a raincoat with a small **nis and ugly women. Yorkshireman = Tall upright hansome with 12" monster and beautiful women. Hope this makes things a little clearer Edited April 5, 2009 by philB

philB
One thing I must add is that despite all this adversity Lancastrians still seem to retain their sense of humour
