Black Blade
Has anybody done any calculations about how cost effective it is to make your own soft plastics? Sure, you have the freedom to make any kind of shape that enters into your mind, but for all the regular shapes like worms etc, is it worth the money, time and effort to make your own or just keep buying them? I am asking this from the POV of living in Ontario, Canada, so have to factor currency exchange, shipping, possible border charges into the mix as well. longhorn
Depends on what you're making. I make all kinds of swimbaits that retail for $2.00 to $9.00 each...that's very cost effective for me since I use them a lot and make even the bigger ones for less than a buck. gone2long
It all depends on how far you take it. My start-up cost is around $350 - $400 but I now can make 1000's of baits in a wide range of colors and on demand, plus it doesn't hurt to sell some to your friends to keep it going:) But you can make quite a bit with just a used microwave and a pyrex cup. Pitbull Baits
I wanna say its about $.04 to $.07 per 7" worm. I think if Delw will get on this one he is the man to know. I also think LC said at one time 700 to 800 5" stik baits per gallon of plastic if I rember right.
Black Blade
If another Canadian TU member could chime in, I would be curious to know how much it costs to get the orders over the border. If it is more hassle or less for the larger containers (5 gallon) over the smaller units.

By the time they get through with you you won't like them anymore;lol. Try getting the 5 gal shipped regular mail and the customs is only $5 plus taxes. You can also buy your plastic from Tubeman who is a member here and he lives in Ontario. www.novalures.com
96dak
as stated in the other thread, im near chatham ont. the only things i get from the states are molds, bags, and scent (UpperHand). flake, colour and plastic come from Mike @ BassMagnet Lures (TubeMan). as far as cost effective, a bag of 10 7" sticks (Del's mold, they are Fat sticks) costs less than a $1.60 including the bag, scent and header card. Black Blade
Thanks for the replies guys, just wanted to get the skinny on this before I pull the trigger on it. Last thing I want is for TOWMBO to go ballistic on yet another of my 'saving money ventures'
