criggster
Do you have a recommendation for a soft plastic glue? I have used Pro's Choice Glue and really liked it, but not for $14 a bottle! I also tried some el Cheapo stuff at Gander Mtn. for $3 a bottle and really don't like it! I will be using it to repair tears and rips in baits and gluing jigheads to lures. Richard Prager
For repairing baits, they make portable battery powered soldering guns starting at $10. Just Google it.
Piscivorous Pike
For repairing baits, they make portable battery powered soldering guns starting at $10. Just Google it. THANK YOU! I was about to buy the glue or the small line cutting tool BP carries that uses an AA cell to cut line or weld plastic. It costs almost $20. I believe they were originally made for the garment industry as you can find them in fabric/sewing stores easily. THANK YOU! As you saved me some time, money and it is a useful idea, I got a Weller Battery Powered Soldering Tool (this link shows an older style, it is much better now) for $15 and this last week end I welded hollow body swim baits, cut braid, flourocarbon leaders and actually soldered a broken wire in a minnow bucket air pump! It is bright orange with two heat ranges, LEDs to light your way too. It totally eliminates any fray off Braid tag ends, you can form a bump on mono or flouro line tag ends to help stop line slips. I got twice the fish out of the Hollow Body baits as I stuck the tip into the holes and melted them and let them close. Polishing it accross tears you can smooth down the repair very nicely. Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention it solders like it was intended to do. I intend to fish PIKE next month with Castaic swim baits. What I read on them from England is that Pike tear them up badly. This tool is a wonderful edition that should keep them running a while.

longhorn
Here's another option I saw. Cabela's -- Pro Weld Plastics Welder Edited April 22, 2009 by longhorn typo
Piscivorous Pike
Here's another option I saw.Cabela's -- Pro Weld Plastics Welder Ah, yes, that is the thread cutters form the garment industry I was writtng about. Limitted application, it cuts line and welds plastic. You cas see what I mean about price compared to the $15 soldering iron and the iron has a lot more versatillity and longer battery run time. I owe thanks to 152nd Street Baits because of that, I almost bought those welders.
Richard Prager
Thanks, but I can't take the credit. A buddy in my club mentioned using one quite a while ago. Sounds like it more than paid for itself already. Off to Home Depot I go!
