ranger361
I read alot about plaster of paris for worm molds, which I have done myself. the worms that come out of p.o.p. molds are dull looking. has everyone else had this problem or is it just me. Thought about taking p.o.p. mold to a pottery maker to run through a kiln, don't know if that would work or not just a thought. If the p.o.p.mold would not work maybe a pottery mold would give the worms a shine. Just another thought. :
siebler_custom_baits
That pttery mold idea sound good. i have noticed plaster molds are dull but someone keeps saying if you seal with resin then you get shinnyer worms.

redg8r
yeah when you mention running it through a kiln, you mean to "glaze" it right? its added to the piece before its fired. you can get good results with epoxy coatings, resin coatings, ive even used high temp spray enamels before. I recieved some great plaster molds from our recent mold swap & looks like the guys brushed on a light coat of devcon epoxy, works pretty well. Big Splash
Use a bar top epoxy, coat untill the mold is shiney smooth. The baits will come out as shiney as the mold surface. You can also use a heavy coating of worm oil in the cavity. I don't know how well that works 'cause all my plaster molds cast beautifuly shiney baits. Fish_N_Fool
Bottom line is if the mold doesn't shine the bait won't shine. I use Fiberglass resin to seal the plaster and it works great for me. Put a on a couple thin coats till the mold is like a mirror and your baits will come out shining like a diamond. Tim Kelly
If you have a load of baits which are a bit matt you can flash them quickly with a flame from a burner, this melts the outside very quickly which gives the baits a nice high gloss.
