Additves to liquid plastic

Recommended Posts

I think I saw information about this once before here, but I can not find it by doing a search. Or, I am not searching for the right word(s).

Are the various brand additives, i.e., softener, heat stabilizer, hardener, etc., interchangeable with the various brands of liquid plastics? For instance: will M-F softener work in PollyOne plastic, will LC heat stabilizer work in M-F plastic? :?

I would say beware. Don't try to mix plastisols. I.e. Super soft M-F with some medium Calhoun's or LC with Poly One...Plastisol resins are measured and added in specific amounts to make each product. As you see, the products are very different from the various manufacturers, especially with resin settling.

With stabilizers, there are barium and zinc varieties. They are chosen to work with the resins used in the plastisol.

Bottom line is, if you do decide to mix manufacturers products, the resulting product may not be as expected and the manufacturer should not be expected to stand behind that mixture of products.

I have used softener interchangeably with no issue but the manufacturer did not recommend it. Contact each manufacturer to be sure.

I agree Jim

I have spoke to my suppliers and they all tell me the same thing. We suggest using our softener and hardener in our products only. They are not the same .They may work but I think each mixture will give you different results. We have 3 plastic suppliers now and will be having all 3 of there softener and hardener. The only thing they will all agree on is the DNIP (Worm Oil) is basically the same.
