CL Rods
Wow another color question. Lucky Craft Pearl Ayu baits have what my wife calls MOSSY GREEN. It appears to be a translucent color unless really layered on, and has brown and green qualities. If anyone knows what this paint color really is, please chime in. If you know how to duplicate it REALLY WELL, please let me know. I have tried layering translucent browns and greens and yellows and just can't quite nail it. So if you can help please respone or PM. Thanks, Charlie
CL Rods
OK, no answers on that one. How about just the 'mossy brown' color description? Is this a trade secret that no one wants to answer? Someone has to know as it is commercially being used by a couple of bait manufacturers.
benton B
Gator, I don't have an exact match but I shoot yellow green(wildlife colors) lightly over pearl white body, then I mixed hooker's green, raw umber, and transparent base. This gave me more of dark green/blue back and I think it looks good. I don't know if this will be much help.
mark poulson
Your wife has a sharp eye! I don't layer, as a rule. Instead, I try to mix it before I shoot it. Apple Barrel sells an opaque mossy green. I actually add a few drops of Createx trans. dark brown to get a little deeper green for my trout backs and shoulders. I thin with Windex or Createx trans base, because the Apple Barrel paint is thick. For an Ayu color, baby bass to me, I do pearl white belly and sides, moss green upper sides, shoulders and back, then use straight trans dark brown on the back, and over the shoulders lightly. I don't know how to get that hue in a truly transparent color, but I'd play around with a trans med green, trans yellow, trans brown, and maybe just a drop of black, if it's still too light. I think avocado when I'm mixing, and then, once I've gotten that color, I darken with the dark trans brown. Let us know what you finally come up with.
