Sculpey and PoP?

Hey all,

I just finished a prototype segmented jerkbait last night out of sculpey and am looking to make a mold. I have RTV and PoP, and was looking for some direction on how to go about this. I have only made molds with the PoP with already existing plastics, and never a prototype made of a hard material. I would think that removing the master from the plaster would be difficult. I'd use RTV, but the making of a mold for a 9" bait is not very cost efficient. Any ideas?

Did you bake the sculpy clay? If you didn't it will come right out of the POP with no problem.

If you baked it and the bait is multi-dimentional you will not get it out of the POP without breaking the mold.

RTV is definately the way to go with your project.

Thanks for the advice, guys. I'm taking a small break from what is shaping up to be an all night pouring binge. I did bake the clay in order to sand in the segments. The key to this bait was to make something that had really good horizontal glide, while still being able to swim. After a few prototypes, I settled on this one, as I felt it had the best vortex shedding properties. After some tub testing, this has the action I want. It swims on the twitch with the tail, not the head, and it swims reasonably well on the straight. I ended up going with the RTV to crank out the initial tests. Now with a few soft models, I have eight sitting in PoP right now.
