Pit Bass
Hi Guys. Is there a scale to rate hardness of a soft plastic bait ? I use calhoun plastic with no additives. How would that rate on a hardness scale? Thanks for any help !
Delw
Theres a scale you can buy called a durameter(sp), however the time I needed one for machining plastics and rubbers its cost was over 12k. Granted it was for the areospace industries Something tells me I said the wrong scale now.... correct me if I am wrong. Delw
alsworms
In my opinion, Calhoun plastic is very similar to Lure Craft 536 formula; just slightly harder. But it DOES pour easier and makes a nice quality bait. I have read about durometers in measuring plastic hardness, but I have no idea how to use them. Tubeman
Durometer...a durable thermometer ?? oh that was bad I have mixed my own hard/soft formulas using a base plastic (ie Calhoun Tube) then kept track in terms of how much softner is needed to create a plastic suitable for worms/jerkbaits/chunks/quiver sticks...I think I have 4 formulas set so that the bait in question always has the hardness/softness I require. This takes some time and effort as well as precise measurements, otherwise...you look like this
