jdr418
Howdy from Texas, There seems to be a fairly well guarded secret in the finishing of jigging spoon, "or a we call them in Texas slabs." If you look around the net you will see several makers that have a foil holographic finish applied to their lures. This is usually a highly reflective silver or gold color. I know that this finish is a hot stamping foil and I have a pretty good idea of the tool used to apply the finish. What I would like to know is if anyone knows of one source of supply for the foils or anyone knowledgeable in applying the product to lures that I can get guidance from. I have been molding my own slabs for some time and am considering going into a sales situation in the near future when I retire. I want to take my lures to the next level of finish. Vodkaman
Not sure if it is the same thing or what you are looking for, but Hazmail (Pete) has written a lot on mylar foiling. There i even a tutorial in the 'how to' section, at the top of the page. No reason why this cannot be applied to 'slabs'. Do a search on 'mylar' for more reading. turkeylegs1246
Now that really is not much of a secret. Is it? They are pretty expensive though. As an alternative you can cut them out of sheets of Holographic vinyl or have someone else do it. Check with a sign shop and get an idea of the cost. Making slabs is a lot of work anyway you do it. Then there's the excise tax. Do you really want that headache? Oh yes, sales tax too! And there's packaging costs.....retire, go fishing... mkvnmtr
I know it does not answer your question but try making some with tin. Here in Mexico I find solder that is 95% tin and it makes an effective lure. When I was a youngster they made a lot out of tin but the price went up and just a few stayed with it.
