dsmblack
Can someone give me a little advice. I have several BPS Extreme Rods. I am looking to replace the top eye on a couple of them. I am looking to get as close to the original as possible. Does anyone know what size the are. I have mostly 6'6" rods and the tips have never been broken if that helps. I am looking in Barlows catolog. for a match. Thanks.
Richard Prager
Why don't you remove the tip and measure it? You're going to have to take them off any way and this will leave nothing to error.
dsmblack
Great Idea, however, what would I use to measure. All I have is a basic tape measure or ruler.
Richard Prager
I'm sure one of the rod builders will chime in.
hazmail
If you have not got a set of vernier callipers to measure it, try inserting drill bits until you get a tight fit, then just read the size - if you don't have drill bits, go to the hardware store and use theirs.pete

Mattman
Call Bass Pro. They SHOULD be able to tell you what size. St. Croix and Loomis not only will tell you...but they'll send you a replacement. Tips are measured by the ring size and the tube size. Tube sizes are in 64ths of an inch. So a size 5 tube is 5/64ths of an inch in diameter. The rings are in millimeters. Probably a 6 or a 7 for your rod.
ROWINGADUBAY
I believe they use fuji guides so I would think they would use the tips also I have used the hot glue they sell for rod repair and it works in a pinch but I would not suggest that route if you have the time use a good 2 part epoxy
HJS
I've had to replace all the tip guides on my 6'6" MH BPS Extreme spinning rods. The tip guide hole is so small that the double uni knot I use to tie a 20# leader to 10# Fireline jams in the tip guide. Why they chose to use such a small guide is beyond me. Use the drill method to find out the size of the tip top... or just take the tip guide off and take it to a tackle shop. You should be able to eyeball the right fit. Heck, better yet, take the whole rod.
