Chatter Bait Production

Recommended Posts

I have the head of the original chatterbait I was wondering if anyone makes a jig hook with an extra long shaft that will work with a doit mold head I think its a sparkie head...I have been making mine like the origibnal chatterbait and its a pain finding the clip that hooks to the hook eye and the open part that you hook the blade to. The new chaterbaits are all one hook design and the blade hooks into the hookeye

Thanks

The eagle claw 574 jig hook has an extra long shank but they have a 90 degree bend so they wont work with a sparkie and I don't think they sell a hook with an open eye you can close around the blade wish they did as of now I think split rings are our only options for blade to hook eye connections I do make a chatter bait style bait with the long shank hook but I use a regular round head jig.I did find that using an turned eye hook with two split rings is easier but you loose the long shank hook .I am going to try pouring the heads with the hook cut off and some heavy leader material in its place as soon as I can find a way to attach a new hook like the factory ones are made alot of people say the flex of the cable keeps fish from throwing hooks.

Doing this you could set the hook as far back as you want to.

I tried the leverage spinnerbaits when they first came out with the cable-attached hook, and found they were no better at keeping fish on. In fact, several times I thought the hook didn't stick because it got turned in their mouth, instead of penetrating.

I use standard blades and chatterbait-type lures, and use a trailer hook if I can.

Speaking strictly as a fisherman, I think the hook being rigid is a good thing, because, since I throw the chatterbait on 50lb braid, I get instant and solid hooksets. I use chatterbaits with big jig hooks, and haven't had a fish throw one yet.
