booneangler
Was thinking about trying to make my own night time spinnerbaits and was looking at ordering some spinnerbait heads with the wire poured in them already. Does the head design make a lot of diference and if so what is the best design out there that can be bought?
smalljaw
You can use just about any head design you like but depending on the cover you're fishing some heads are better than others. I like the slender, minnow style heads for fishing weeds and burning near the surface because they have less resistance and they also come through weeds fairly easy. Bullet style heads are a great all-purpose head that can be fished in cover as well as burning which is why it's popular, but for a night time bait I think I'd go with a banana style head, it looks somewhat like an arkie head jig, this type of head is short with the weight mostly at the front of the head so it'll fall nose down which will make your blades spin better plus it's bulky design will push more water which is what you want at night time. buzzer
Buzzer says NO! I make spinnerbaits and i have used ones that i have kinda messed up in the mold, and have caught many fish on them. With out the fancy paint job on them. Just the lead color. Also, i have used different heads and have caught many fish also. Thats my 2 cents. FISH ON ! lmcat
I tend to agree that it does not matter very much to a point. I also pour and paint all my Spinner baits, Jigs and Buzz Baits and 98% of the time I use the same three moulds(different weights) to pour spinner baits for night time. I do have a preference on what I call a drop bait this is a short arm bait used on steep banks where you drop to bottom pull out a little and let it fall to bottom again. For this I use a head copied from a "T's" head. Bait was made in Tenn. I think It's no longer made. There is another bait made in Tenn. that has a flat bottom that works well around gravel and rocks which is what I mostly fish on the Coosa River (Logan Martin) in Ala. Its a "Hoppys" Hope this helps Mackey
