You can also cut the rubber checks and open them up to slip around the blank. I personally don't use them so I don't know if they'd stretch enough to get over guides or a grip...but I doubt it.

I have some laying around. I just tried to stretch one. The answer is no. The correct size one will not stretch over the guides and come back to shape. Like Matt said though I rarely use them. You can get you epoxxy to run right up on the cork to make a clean sloping transition. then do a wrap over it. Or if your cork is quality cork you can just run your thread wrap up to it and then epoxy over it and make the bevel. Its really pretty easy.
