5 gallon or 1 gallon?

Recommended Posts

I'm a newbie at this, I have made my molds (POP). I have been reading for a while and feel ready to give it a shot. Since reading about the shelf life and also looking at the cost, I'm just not sure if I should buy the 5 gallon or 1 gallon plastisol?

For now I'm just interested in making ~14 sluggo type lures, basically to minimize the cost of having them chewed ($4 a piece) up by marauding Dog Fish.

It would help to have a general idea of how many of these I'd be able to make for the 5 gal vs the 1 gal.

General cost:

1 gallon = ~$40 + ?? shipping

5 gallon = ~$108 + ~$26 shipping

Appreciate your feedback

regards

Jake

Get at least the 2.5 gallons. Shipping is pretty high on this stuff and 1 gallon will be gone before you know it. I bought a quart, then a gallon, now I'm on the 5'er. Give the extra lures to your friends and experiment on new stuff. Good luck.

I would say with a sluggo you could get roughly 300 to 350+/- baits from 1 gal depending on the size of the sluggo.

With 1 gal i pour 550 to 600 +/- 6" worms if i dont mess up so 400 because i do.

I'll be making between 12" inch to 14" Sluggo style Baits, so based or your info I'll guess on making conservatively < ~200 baits? with a 1 gallon? Does that sound right?

This is a really great message board lots of help here :)

That sounds about right (200+/- at that size), but as posted "there is a learing curve". Id go with the 5 gal.

You will go through the gallon quick, this is an addicting hobby.
