RiverMan
Can someone direct me to a tutorial on how to create a nice loop at each end of a spinner? Mine don't look all that great and I can't find any information on how to make them better. Thank you. Jed V.
TTDuckman
You will need a set of round nose pliers. To take it step further and make your life easier, I would higly recommend nesting round nose pliers. Barlows has them as I am sure most others do as well. I wouldn't try making a spinnerbait with out them. Tim
kelly
If you take the wire and make one loop. Then leave the pliers in the loop wrap the wire around the shaft. The trick is to straighten the wire after the loop is made. If the wire is to heavy you will probably want two pliers one round nose the other needle nose smooth jaws. Like every thing else practice makes perfect.
ROWINGADUBAY
I used to put a nail in a vice and wrap it around to form a loop untill I went to Michaels craft store and bought a set of jewlery makeing plers they work slick its just a needle noise with both set of jaws in the shape of a cone .the nesting pliers might work a bit better but you do want to straighten the loop after it is made and trimmed GOOD LUCK George
RiverMan
That's pretty much what I have been doing Kelly but my loop doesn't turn out round! lol. I like the nail idea............will give it a try. Thank you. RM
pirkfan
Try to find a book called Modern Tacklecraft by C. Boyd Pfeiffer. It's got the best pictorial description of how to make a loop that I've seen anywhere. I'm not sure it's currently in print, but library might have a copy, or Amazon
diemai
@ RiverMan Made some bends on a short term(aluminium welding wire)for display , ......I utilize slim pliers(NOT the round type)and a nail fixed vertically on the outer edge of a vise . Follow step by step fom the left side , leave the tag end to be wound around shank longer as shown in last step to have a better grip on it with the pliers . To achieve the final windings around the shank you need to flip over the eye on the nail every half turn to get around it with your pliers . Finally snip off tag end with sidecutters , I usually grind the remaining tag off flush to the closure coil and break the edges with a small file , so no wire would produde anymore . good luck , diemai:yay:
RiverMan
Thanks Diemai! I appreciate you taking the time to help me out. Jed
diemai
@ RiverMan No problem , that's what such site is for , ..........forgot to say , that it is much safer to file the point of the nail round before bending the wire forms around it ,.... sometimes the pliers slide off the tag ends whilst bending the closure coil(especially when working thicker and more rigid wire) , and nobody likes some unwanted piercings on hand and wrist;) ! good luck , diemai:yay:
Fatman
I didn't want to pay for the pliers so I just bought the Netcraft wire bending tool YEARS ago when they were $7.95. Still using it although the Boggs looks really nice. Fatman
