Rock Hard, Smooth as Glass Mold for Under a Buck.

Recommended Posts

Poured Urethane Resin that I use on my hard baits, in lieu of POP, Bondo or Silicone. It cured in 3 minutes. The cost of this mold was $.71. No Stink, like Bondo Resin. The Bride was Clueless to what I was up to!:)

The pours came out perfect, and the mold is the next best thing to metal.

It yielded a perfect rendition of the model and afforded an easy release. It gets hot when it's curing, but not nearly as hot as Bondo Resin.

Thank you Ed Brabant for "Schooling" me on the latest pouring Techniques and the Materials.

BTW Ed, your UR swim bait mold is ready!

How does it hold up to the heat of multiple, prolonged pours?

Does it shrink any when it cures?

If it holds up to heat without warping and doesn't shrink when curing, it might be a good prospect for two-part molds.

The heat of the pours didn't have any effects on the pours I did. FWIW, If I were to make prolonged pours, I would make multiple molds, if just for speed sake.

5 molds, $3.75, rapid rollover and pouring, and cooling is less of an issue. JMHO

As for a two piece mold, I will be experimenting with tha in the near future. I will keep you all up to speed.

I didn't notice any shrinkage. If there is any it is minimal and won't effect the end product.

Thank you, Wild tail, it's much appreciated.

Awsome. Where do you get the resin from?

Dascars RP 40 on Ebay. Ihttp://www.dascarplastics.com/

$69 for 2 gallon (14 lb) kit. I use it for casting plugs, Making my FoTins and now for Rubber Bait molds.

If anyone has any questions PM's are welcomed.

UPDATE:

This a.m. I poured a complex swim bait into the resin mold and I had a bear of a time getting it out. Finally, I did, in 2 pieces. On the next pour, I oiled the cavity with PAM and the casting came out with no problem, other than my having to take care due to the many undercuts, the Paddle Tail and the molded in hook slot. The softer rubbers are not very forgiving.:nono:

In any event, lubing the mold is a prudent step.:twocents:
