Celticav
OK, lets not start a war, LOL, I was just curious about what brand of hook you guys like the most.. I do now and have for a couple of years now liked the Owner Cutting Point... a little expensive but I would probably feel the same way if they doubled their prices. jigmaster
I pour spinnerbait and buzzbait forms for customers, and typically use Mustad Ultra-Point BLN hooks......32606 to be exact. For the money, I think that Ultra-points are the best hook around. My .02 Jigmaster www.daimonlures.com
siebler_custom_baits
Eagle claw has a big selection, and good pricing. As long as you buy the right ones they are a great choice.
Fat Ratz
Owner hooks has my vote. I make a buzzbait with a Owner cutting point hook and it is absolutely one of the best and sharpest hooks going.
woodsac
From a buyer's point, I only buy jigs with Mustad Ultra Point or Gamakatsu. I like how sharp the Gammies are, but most people use the EWG on jigs. I prefer the traditional bend, so that means I usually get Mustads. I think a lot of it is a confidence thing. Most guys don't even know what type of hook is on their lure if you ask them. They are just using it because someone else told 'em that it catches fish. deadlystreamer
There is a fellow who was the Team of the Year in the 2002 Redfish tournament in Southwest Florida. This guy's name is Paul with the same last name as mine. With a name like ours, we are surly related. I contacted him and spoke on the phone and we do come from the same family way back. We got talking about his fishing and using jigs. I told him I'd tie him up some free jigs for a plug or two and then talked hooks. I was surprised to hear he will use nothing but jigs tied on the Owner hooks. This seems to be the tournament hook of choice. Have any of you heard of or run into Paul Jueckstock? Just wondering. Celticav
Well after trying so many I believe the Mustad is the best one for your buck, but on my personal baits I only use Owner Cutting Point. Reason is it penetrates easier and stays sharp, and I mean sharp, I did that test where you drag the point across a 2x4 and it just plain isn't in the competition with other hooks that I have did the same test on. But for general sales I do use Mustad ultrapoints too...great hook and cheap cost, JIM
siebler_custom_baits
One personal baits i must agree with you.
PaBasser
I use mainly mustads, unless someone request other hooks. I`ve used owners with great results.. But..Mustad is my all round hook for the money. I use to use eagle claw, but it seems the quality is not as good as it use to be. they aren`t as sharp as they use to be either in my opion. Markell
I only use Gamakatsu hooks for all of my baits. It is a confidence thing and since I do not sell my baits, I do not mind the price tag. I am a little curious about the ultra point because it seems to be a popular hook for jigs but I have not tried them. I have been using Gamakatsu EWG worm hooks for many years and I have a hard time putting on anything else.
Gr8flyz
Mustad Ultra Points & Gamakatsu on all my bass jigs, spinnerbaits & buzzbaits, Mustads on my saltwater jigs, and VMC on all my small panfish jigs. I do use some Eagle Claw & Daiichi hooks also, but only on a few items. Gamakatsu are very strong & sharp, but for the money the Mustad Ultra Points are as good in my opinion. Have only tried Owners on Tarpon flies for one customer, so have no real opinion on them.
Glaucus
Owner hooks rock. I've used 5103's for spinnerbaits, just pinch down the barbs on the shank. I got some Owner spinnerbait hooks off e-bay, wish I could find more. Owners cost more than a buck each here in Canada, but IMO none are better. I use Mustad Ultra Point and Eagle Claw L255 hooks too. I made some spinnerbaits with Gamakatsu hooks and the first time I tried them I hooked and lost 5 pike. I wont use them again. I think Mustads are the best compromise for quality vs cost
