Colorant Base

Recommended Posts

I have an old pint of MF colorant. It is full and has settled so there is a 1.5 - 2.0 inch layer of solids at the bottom that won't mix with the liquid above.

My question is what is this liquid? Can it be used as a softener? It is relatively clear.

Go to your local hobby shop the ones that sell models and rc cars they have hobby size paint shakers for around 30 bucks they shake around 5,000 shakes a minute i use this method every time i pour worms its nice to know your color is evenly mixed every time no question on color being off a shade due to poorly mixed coloring.i also put lil bearings in my bottles helps mix faster each bottle gets about a minute on the mixer

This bottle is real old stuff from an eBay Lot that I bought. The rest of the lot was good but this is fluorescent chartreuse and the pigment that has settled is so hard that a screw driver will only penetrate about 1/4 inch.

Do you guys think if I cut the bottle and took the "lump" of pigment out I could smash it with a hammer and mix it back into solution? I was originally thinking I could use the liquid for softener but now I am thinking I might try to save it. Maybe leave the lump in the sun till it is dry and then smash it followed by putting it in a blender?
