ROWINGADUBAY
I am looking into making my first rod I would like to make a 7'-6" muskie rod out of need for one I think it would be a good place to start. I was wondering if anyone knows of a good quality blank at a low price ? I also like a longer handle on my rods if any one has any suggestions on the blank ,handle, or maybe a kit I am all ears. Thanks George Oh yeah what do you think it will cost for the end product without the initial start up cost
Mattman
St. Croix Premier. Batson Rainshadow. Those will probably be the cheapest, good blanks. I don't buy grips...but I do know St. Croix offers their grips thru their retailers.

ROWINGADUBAY
I checked out your suggestions and cant find anything for under a hundred bucks thats a lot of cash for me to spend on something I might screw up there has to be a good blank out there for about 30-40 dollar range I can buy a 7' gander guide series already made for 40 bucks and its a pretty good rod I know you get what you pay for and I will invest more in the next rod if this one turns out good I wouldn't mind spending around a hundred for a finished rod.It just seems a lot for a blank Or do you guys think I should practice turning some of my already broken rods into ice fishing rods for practice and invest in a good blank when I get the hang of it ? rhahn427
George You can't compare a production rod to a custom made rod. If you are looking for price then go to WalMart etc. Custom made rods are hundreds of $ if someone makes one for you and about $150 + for just materials for a Musky custom and then there is the equipment to build. Good guides can cost much more than $30. That said, once you catch a fish on a rod you made ....... you're hooked and won't go back. The Utmost prices that you looked at had a 25% discount on that I don't think you knew about. If you want to practice. Strip an old rod of the guides and re wrap them ....... cut up an old rod, get some cork and make some handles. Find some rod building websites and books and study and talk to some rodbuilders. You can contact me if you want.
