Looking for a mold like this...Help

Recommended Posts

Hey Mike,

Here are my suggestions. All Do-It molds. Weedless Sparkie Jigs #JKS-1090-Y. Arky Style #ARK-3-AY.......Style S Bass Jig #JKS-3-AY..........Your best bet would be the Arky Jig with the double collar. It already has the flat eye hook #ARK-3-AFC. You can block off all the collars on these with JB Weld. On the hook you can easily slot out a spot for the flat eye on the others. In the weedguard hole you can put in a hitch hiker...........I have done this before and it works well.

I too have done the JB Weld trick and eye mods, But this is not even close to the arky head. I have those molds. I have 60+ of those. :D I want to make a stand up head out of this one. Nice wide flat bottom without a ton of weight, and has a somewhat pointed front to come through the weeds. :)

You could make something very close to that head by using solder and colorado or indiana blades just like making ice fishing jigs just lay the blade cup up hold your hook with a pair of pliers down the center and use rosin core wiring solder I make a jig really close to that one for ice fishing but with a #2 or 4 hook for walleye and crappie and never had a hook slide or any problems you can vary the wieght a lot by how much solder you use for consistency I measure the same length of solder for each one once you get the weight right its apiece of cake give it a try you will be surprised there is also a mold made by do-it for cabelas called a wobble head but I am not sure if cabelas carries it any more and they use 90 degree hooks but you may be able to tweek it to do what you want, I do see them on E-bay every once in a while .

hope this helped

Mike,

George is correct regarding the Cabela's Do-It mold. It can only be bought from Cabela's or maybe on e-bay. Here is the link Do-It Cabela's Wobble Jig Mold. With a little modification, this may be what you're looking for. I have this mold. It must be poured with soft lead. I have had some issues with mine, but it does work well. Not my most favorite mold to pour.

The cabelas wobble head mold is my favorite mold. But like cadman said use soft lead and it will preform well. I have three of those molds and have modified two of them with success. One using a screw lock. I haven't modified the hook eye to the tip of it yet. I have some carlisle 3/0 hooks sitting on the bench for that purpose. They sill need to be bent slightly to fit in the mold. The draw back for what you are asking for is the tip is not tapered very much It is pretty round. Its also cupped or bent back similar to a spinner blade. The weeds will most likely hang up on the front next to the eye of the hook. If you wanted to fill the mold with JB weld to taper it more It might make what you are looking for. If you are stuck on that exact shape I fill you need to have a custom mold made or try to cut one your self. As for work to get that mold the way you want it you will cut the eye in the front and bend a hook to fit. Then cut a slot for the screw lock. Then JB weld the taper in the mold and JB the plastic keeper and JB the old eye. I wish you luck on what ever you choose to do. But doing the modifications to the wobble head mold, on this one endeavor and you will learn a lot that you will use in the future.

OK... After doing some more research, It appears that the bend up is too long for any of the hooks to get out to the nose. I did a search for wobblehead on e-bay and got many pics to compare.

When your lying in bed tonight, Try and come up with a better way for me... :lolhuh:

Hey Mike, do you want my wife to throw me out of the house. I already get up at night when I can't sleep, and then start scheming about different color combo's, better finishes and clearcoats, more colorful skirts and a bunch more stuff. Now you want to add to this?????????:eek::eek:.......Just kidding. Always willing to share and help. BTW if you would like a couple of samples of the wobble jig, PM me.

Do-it Molds: Buzz-Spin Lure

Well if you want something closer the buzz bait is shaped like that. Heart shaped and flat. Just put a hook in and not a wire form. Only a little cutting for the hook eye will be needed.

I actually have already made this mold out of my heart shaped buzz bait mold. It does not stand up the bait to my liking., Keep on keeping on please.

Thanks for the offer.... I might just keep looking for a deal on a wobblehead mold to modify. I thought about using the spinner blades, But I want something more consistant in size and weight like a mold.
