njones
How many of you guys sell ur baits? How and where to sell. I'd like to try selling baits to make some extra cash to support my hoppy/addiction. I'v found that theres always a new color, glitter, mold or more plastic I can't live without. thanks Nate
mikefishnfl
I have sold baits for years. I also just joined up with two new partners who are in the process of producing our baits. The thing I can tell you is it is very difficult to sell your new baits because it's difficult to keep the price in range to make a profit. We are forced to buy in very large quanities, and ultimately our baits will fund our fishing our tournaments, and that's about it. There are so many people selling baits that it makes it difficult to break in. We have been lucky so far in that we have secured sponsorships, and deals that will really help promote our lures once they are released. Zbass
I don't sell a ton of baits, but what I do is to try to cover as much of my costs as I can. I just sell to friends, tourny fishermen, co-workers and people like that. I have tried to keep it to where I can still play with all the new stuff and new ideas instead of having to crank out 1000 of this and 1000 of that in my free time. Hope that makes sense. njones
Thanks for the info Zbass and mikefishnfl. I'd like to cover my costs and maybe make a lil extra. It's pretty hard to find people that want to buy hand poured lures.
gone2long
The best way to look at it is find your niche market, for example I'm on the Delaware River and we have a strong Striper fishery here so I would target that fishery for choice of bait types keep it simple a few types and a few proven colors. Then as things develop add a few more maybe targeting Smallmouth but the rule is to keep it simple unless you plan on going full time you should be able to cover costs and add a few things to you collection.
